Cacti & Succulent History: Cacti and Succulents: Began collecting in 1955 and joined the independent Bolton Cactus Society when still at school. At that time I did not know of the existence of either the NCSS or the GB Society! Work and living circumstances meant that the plants had to take a back seat whilst I was a student and in my early postgraduate years but activity was restored when I joined the Birmingham Branch of the NCSS in 1970. Transferred to Coventry Branch in 1977. Work largely precluded involvement in society management until 2000 but I have always been interested in showing and have been Show Secretary of the Coventry Branch for much of the past 30 years. Qualified as a judge in the 1980`s and joined the Shows Committee in 2003. For many years my collection was mainly a general one of cacti but in recent years I have also developed an interest in mesembs. I am also a member of the Mammillaria Society and the Mesemb. Study Group.
